SSS issues ‘show cause order’ vs 11 businesses

ILOILO City – The Social Security System (SSS) issued show cause orders against 11 business establishments yesterday in this city and Pavia, Iloilo.

They violated provisions of Republic Act 11199 (Social Security Act of 2018) such as non-remittance of employees’ SSS contributions, failure to report the correct number of employees, and gaps in the remittance of employees’ SSS contributions.

SSS president and chief executive officer Aurora Ignacio led the issuance of the show cause orders in line with the agency’s program RACE or “Run After Contributions Evaders.”

The 11 business establishments had been warned several times about their violations but took no action, according to Amiel Genova, SSS regional communication officer. They were the following:

* Ted’s Old Timer La Paz Batchoy, Inc. (Valeria Street, Iloilo City)

* MD Force Security Agency, Inc. (Asico Compound, Luna Street, La Paz, Iloilo City)

* Puricare Industrial Enterprises (across Pavia Market, Barangay Aganan, Pavia, Iloilo)

* Tamaraw Metal Craft (Gonzaga Street, Pavia, Iloilo)

* Appoland’s Pizza (Barangay Aganan, Pavia, Iloilo)

* Reymaries Bread (Barangay Aganan, Pavia, Iloilo)

* HDH Merchandising (Barangay Aganan, Pavia, Iloilo)

* i-Buy Novelty (GT Town Center Mall, Pavia, Iloilo)

* Pancit-pancit (GT Town Center Mall, Pavia, Iloilo)

* Uncle Serbad’s Lechon House (GT Town Center Mall, Pavia, Iloilo)

* One Star Household Merchandise (Q. Abeto Street, Mandurriao, Iloilo City)

The issuance of the show cause orders should compel these business establishments to address their shortcomings, said Genova.

Part of the order read: “You are hereby ordered…within a non-extendable period of 15 days from posting hereof…(to explain) why no legal action shall be taken against your responsible officers…”

“Failure to comply…shall subject the violator to criminal prosecution and upon conviction, a penalty up of to 12 years imprisonment without the benefit of probation,” the show cause order further read.

With SSS’ President Ignacio yesterday were SSS’ Chief Legal Counsel Judge Voltaire Agas; Acting Vice President for Legal Operations Divisions Atty. Renato Jacinto Cuisia; Dr. Lilani Benedian, vice president for Visayas West I Division (Negros Island) and concurrent acting vice president for Visayas West 2 Division (Panay Island), and officials of SSS Iloilo.

“We want to spread awareness…if you have a business, whether small or big, you are mandated to register your employees to SSS,” said Ignacio.

The contributions imposed under the Social Security Act of 2018 shall be remitted to the SSS within the first 10 days of each calendar month following the month for which they are applicable.

Every employer required to deduct and to remit such contributions shall be liable for their payment. If any contribution is not paid to the SSS as prescribed, the delinquent employer shall pay besides the contribution a penalty thereon of two percent er month from the date the contribution falls due until paid./PN
