KALIBO, Aklan – The Social Security System (SSS) has resumed its campaign against contribution evaders in the province of Aklan.
SSS served show cause orders on July 19 to employers here found non-compliant in the payment contributions, according to SSS Aklan branch head Rene Moises Gonzales.
The state-run private sector pension fund SSS has intensified its Race Against Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign to ensure compliance of erring employers of their statutory obligations under Republic Act 11199.
Gonzales said six delinquent employers were given non-extendible period of 15 calendar days to settle their unpaid obligations including penalties or avail an amicable and flexible payment terms.
Last year, delinquent employers were given notices for non-payment of SSS contributions. Of these, six employers engaging in restaurant, hardware and hotel operations in Kalibo were initially served with show cause orders by SSS Legal Department on Tuesday to immediately settle unpaid premiums and penalties.
The Social Security Law penalises an employer who fails or refuses to register their employees, remit and deduct their contributions from their employees with a fine of P5,000 to P20,000 and/or imprisonment for six years and one day, at the discretion of the court.
These employers may settle their delinquencies at SSS Aklan Office. If they fail to respond, the SSS Legal Department will file legal action against them.
Meanwhile, SSS noted more than 70 percent of registered employers in Aklan operating in Boracay Island and Caticlan were affected adversely by the ongoing pandemic./PN
