St. Benilde holds off EAC in NCAA caging

MANILA – College of St. Benilde Blazers survived a late run by the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals for a 69-66 win in the NCAA Season 95 men’s basketball on Tuesday at San Juan Arena.

James Pasturan top-scored with 19 points, while Justin Gutang had double-double 17 points and 12 rebounds as the Blazers joined a five-way tie on top with 1-0 slate.

Gutang made its presence felt with 10 early points as the Blazers surged to 17-12 edge. It grew to 37-23 at the half as Pasturan drained 12 of his total output in the second period.

The Blazers were still ahead by double figures after the first three quarters but the Generals mounted a huge run in the fourth period but could only come to as close as three points.

JP Maguliano had double-double 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Jethro Mendoza chipped in 16 markers for the 0-1 Generals./PN
