St. Robert’s, Hua Siong snag SBP-Passerelle Iloilo leg titles

ROBERT’S International Academy Panda Rockets ruled the Passerelle division of the 2018 Milo SBP-Passerelle Twin Tournament Iloilo leg at the Ateneo de Iloilo in Iloilo City.

Panda Rockets under head coach John Guanco defeated Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix in the finals. MVP awardee Gwyn Miles Pendon and Kent John Parrenas top-scored with 18 points each for St. Robert’s.

Panda Rockets showed its dominance right on the bat behind Pendon and Parrenas for a 27-12 advantage. Red Phoenix tried to close the gap in the second period but Panda Rockets got timely hits to maintain a 42-29 halftime edge.

In the second half St. Robert’s pulled away for good – Pendon and Parrenas continued to wax hot for a 68-45 edge before the team widened the gap further to 25 points in the final quarter.

Other members of Panda Rockets were JP Czar Gastillo, Jorn Linga, John Lester Amagan, Marc Joseph Soberano, Luis Michael Sitchon, JJ Rodas, Carl Louie Gan, and Alrex Tiolo.

Ateneo de Iloilo, meanwhile, salvaged a third place finish in the Passerelle (U-15 division) after beating Santa Clarita International High School Primes in the classification match.

Hua Siong, on the other hand, captured the Small Basketeers of the Philippines division by defeating Ateneo de Iloilo in the titular match./PN
