Sta. Lucia, UST, Perlas unbeaten in Paraw Regatta volley

STA. Lucia Lady Realtors-Iloilo, University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses and Perlas Lady Spikers were unbeaten after Day 1 of the 16th Iloilo Paraw Regatta National Women’s Beach Volleyball on Saturday at the Joe III Garden at Villa Arevalo.

Ilonggas Dhannalyn Mae Demontaño and Jackielyn Estoquia kicked off their campaign with a 21-17, 21-15 win over University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos-A’s Alexa Polidario and Erjane Magdato.

Demontaño and Estoquia followed this up with a 21-7, 21-9 win over Julie Pearl Soco and Christer Claro of University of Cebu and 21-6, 21-16 sweep over Glaudine Trongcoso and Dessa Mae Puyo of Central Philippine University.

Golden Tigresses’ Babylove Barbon and Genesa Eslapor edged SMASH Bacolod’s Margie Senas and Bianca Lizares, followed by 21-14, 21-7 win over UNO-R B Jessalen Moises and Jennymar Serares.

Barbon and Eslapor, the reigning UAAP women’s beach volleyball champions, ended their Day 1 with a 21-14, 21-11 triumph over the St. John’s Institute’s Lorien Gamboa and Ruby Casiple.

Defending champions’ Perlas Lady Spikers of Negrense Bea Tan and Floriemel Rodrigues cruised to a 21-10, 21-16 win over SMASH Bacolod, 21-12, 21-8 sweep over SJI and 21-11, 21-5 victory over UNO-R B.

After Day 1, UST and Perlas were on top of Bracket A with 3-0 followed by Smash Bacolod (1-2), SJI (1-3) and UNO-R B (0-3), while Sta. Lucia Iloilo leads Bracket B with 3-0, followed by UNO-R A and National University Bullpups (2-1), UC (0-2) and CPU 0-3.

Top two teams after the elimination will advance to the semifinals round with the winners moving on to the semifinal round, which is still being played as of press time last night./PN
