MANILA – Alaska Aces rookie Jeron Teng and Mandaluyong El Tigre guard Thomas Torres are expected to miss games after getting stabbed during a brawl early Sunday morning at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City.
Brother Jeric of GlobalPort Batang Pier said Teng might miss some games for Aces in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup after sustaining “very deep” stab wounds.
“Jeron’s cuts in the back were very deep, also in the side of his body. He’s lucky, because some vital organs could’ve been wounded, good thing they weren’t,” Jeric said. “There was a lot of blood (lost) so he had to be further examined.”
“I’m worried the wounds may have a lingering effect, hopefully no. I’m asking for prayers from people. I hope he can recover 100 percent so he can go back to playing basketball,” Jeric added.
Torres, on the other hand, sustained a tear on his triceps. He is seen to be out of El Tigre in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League for four to six weeks.
“He’s out at least six weeks,” said Torres’ player agent Charlie Dy. “He had two deep wounds in both arms and another one by the chest. The muscles in his triceps that were torn need to heal, so it will take time.”
Rain or Shine Elasto Painters center Norbert Torres, who was with Teng and Thomas Torres during the brawl, sustained minor wounds and was released from hospital on Sunday.
PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said the league is willing to lend a hand for Jeron, Norbert Torres and Thomas Torres, who is considered a PBA free agent after getting drafted by Magnolia Hotshots.
“Whatever we can do to help and support the players, that’s what we will do in the PBA. We know they have their legal from their (respective) teams, but if there’s any help they need from us, the PBA will be there to help,” Marcial said./PN
