
BACOLOD City – Fencing around the area of the old Manokan Country in Barangay 12 here is ongoing to give way for the redevelopment project of the SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SPHI).
Following this, beginning Monday, Feb. 17, Manokan stall owners have removed all their remaining properties from their old stalls and transferred it to their temporary location at the Parking Hub of SM City North Wing, just across the old Manokan.
Affected residents have also voluntary demolished their structures in the area.
City Legal Officer Karol Joseph Chiu said that the stall owners as well as the residents affected by the said project had earlier agreed with the city government to totally vacate the area by February 28.
A total of 24 stall owners have so far availed of the temporary location. Each stall owner received P20,000 in financial assistance from the city government.
Nena’s Rose II, one of the long-time Manokan tenants, announced on its social media page the end of their business at the old site.
“End of an era: Today, we bid farewell as Manokan Country closes its doors,” read part of the Facebook post of Nena’s.
It also thanked its valued customers for their unwavering support and for being part of its journey.
“Your love for our food and your loyalty will always be cherished. This is not goodbye — it’s a step toward new beginnings. Maraming salamat!” it added.
SPHI leased the 16,875-square meter city government-owned property covered by Transfer Certificate of Title (TCT) Nos. T-55865 and T-55866 in barangays 10 and 12./PN
