MANILA – Stallion Laguna continued its winning ways in the 2018 Philippines Football League after a 4-1 domination over the struggling JPV Marikina at the Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna.
Ilonggo Jan Jesus Melliza, Ko Kyung Joon, Yannick Tuazon and Abou Sy fired a goal each for Stallion to move up to fourth – 9 points on four wins and three losses – after the Friday match.
But Stallion head coach Ernest Nierras cautioned his players from celebrating too much as he expects their next five games to be tough.
In the next three weeks they will face Ceres Negros, Kaya Iloilo, JPV, Global Cebu, and Davao Aguilas, he said.
“We need to focus more and work harder,” Nierras stressed. “We celebrate and recover, but we must also prepare for the long grind.”
Stallion drew first blood when Melliza struck from just outside the box in the 23rd minute.
JPV managed to equalize in the 52nd minute as Keigo Moriwasu drilled in a wide open goal at the penalty area.
Stallion quickly regained the advantage on a header by Ko before sealing the victory with a putback from Tuazon in the 75th minute and a Sy conversion from inside on stoppage time.
JPV suffered its seventh consecutive defeat since opening the season with 2-0 and is thus stuck on fifth place with 6 points./PN
