MANILA — The Department of Health (DOH) has not yet noted any indicators of a surge in COVID-19 cases after the holiday season.
DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said this during a press forum on Tuesday, even after noting that the department recorded a one percent increase in COVID-19 cases reported.
“Ngayong araw na ito nakita natin na meron tayong one percent increase (Today we saw a one percent increase), but this is not significant for us to say that there is this uptick in cases as a result of the holiday season,” said Vergeire.
“So patuloy natin babantayan ito, we will continuously monitor, and hopefully this would continue to remain at that point or at that level na hindi talaga tumataas ng husto (that doesn’t really increase much),” she added.
Meanwhile, Vergeire, in the same briefing, said that if minimum public health standards continue to decline and more COVID-19 variants enter the country, the DOH projects around 730 daily cases by Feb. 15.
She said this was based on the DOH’s latest forecast or estimates.
However, Vergeire reminded the public that these projections “are not cast in stone,” explaining that these are just estimates meant to prepare the government’s hospitals and surveillance system. (Zacarian Sarao © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
