BORACAY – The Labor department has warned unscrupulous individuals who perpetrate a scheme to avail themselves of the government’s assistance program for this island’s displaced workers.
DOLE regional director Cyril Ticao last week said some employers were reported fraudulently issuing certificates of employment to non-Boracay workers.
The certificates, according to Ticao, were then used in applying for aid under DOLE’s Boracay Emergency Employment Program (BEEP).
Under BEEP, displaced Boracay workers can get P2,102.75 to P4,205.50 worth of monthly cash aid for three to six months, respectively.
“There were reports that individuals were posing as employers or issuing documents such as certificate of employments, IDs and other related documents in exchange for a commission,” said Ticao.
“We will not hesitate to file legal actions to apprehend the perpetrators. We are only ensuring government funds allotted for BEEP are given to legitimate beneficiaries,” he added.
DOLE will strictly evaluate newly received applications not included in the profiled formal sector database, Ticao stressed.
“These applications will be processed for payroll unless eligibility has been fully established and determined,” he added. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
