KALIBO, Aklan â Landslides â triggered by tropical storm âUrdujaâ â have prompted authorities to temporarily close the national road in Nabas, Aklan.
The road leads to Caticlan, Malay, Aklan, the main jump-off point to the world-famous Boracay Island.
The road is still closed as of this writing.
No injuries or casualties were reported after the landslides in barangays Gibon, Libertad and Tagocoroc on Dec. 17, Nabas mayor James Solanoy said.
âMay sobrang 15 landslides blocking road sections sa nasabing barangays at hindi madaanan ng mga bus at vans papuntang Caticlan or Kalibo,â Solanoy added.
Buses, vans and other vehicles are advised to take the Antique route via Pandan and Libertad towns passing Buruanga, Aklan to Malay .
From crossing Nabas, motorists can then have a 45-minute drive to Caticlan.
On the other hand, some portions of Barangay Balusbos in Malay were flooded yesterday.
Solanoy said personnel from the Provincial Engineering Office were deployed for clearing operations in the flooded areas.
Yesterday, the Philippine Coast Guard gave its go signal to resume boat and ferry trips from Cagban port in Boracay to Caticlan jetty port and vice versa at 6 a.m.
Around 90 percent of roads in Boracay were also flooded and hundreds were stranded in the ports, according to the Malay Municipal Risk Reduction and Management Office. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
