Strict enforcement of anti-drunk, drugged driving law for MassKara fest pushed

BACOLOD City – With the MassKara Festival drawing large crowds, the Bacolod City Council is urging the police to intensify the enforcement of Republic Act No. 10568, also known as the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.

It warned of the expected rise in alcohol consumption during the festivities, with numerous tourists and residents celebrating at various establishments across the city.

To ensure public safety, the council passed a resolution requesting the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), and the Philippine National Police (PNP) Highway Patrol Group to strictly enforce the law.

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs impairs drivers’ judgment and reaction times, significantly increasing the risk of road accidents that could endanger the public, said Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella.

“The safety of the general public must be prioritized, especially during high-profile events such as MassKara,” he added.

The Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act prohibits driving under the influence of alcohol or dangerous substances, aiming to uphold public safety by reducing fatal road accidents.

The council also cited Republic Act No. 7160, or the Local Government Code of 1991, which empowers local governments to take actions necessary for the protection and welfare of their communities./PN
