MANILA – Two days after the implementation of “community quarantine” in Metro Manila, the “social distancing” is still not properly observed, Philippine National Police deputy chief for operations Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar said.
Eleazar admitted in a media interview that social distancing were still not being observed by many when he made an inspection in Valenzuela City on Monday morning.
Social distancing is a term applied to certain actions that are taken by public health officials to stop or slow down the spread of a highly contagious disease. It is a form of mitigating measure to hopefully contain the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
“Nagiging problema pa rin. One week ago hindi natin mai-imagine na puwedeng gawin ito. Pero dahil sa pangangailangan, kaya natin gawin,” Eleazar said.
He added that drivers of vehicles, whether private or public, should be the one responsible in imposing social distancing among their passengers.
“Pag mayroong hindi gumagawa (social distancing), pababain. Huwag papasukin,” Eleazar said.
Eleazar also reminded cops to strongly prevent the entry of individuals who have no important matters to attend to in Metro Manila.
“Dapat malaman ng publiko kung ano ‘yung mga guidelines kung ikaw ba ay puwedeng pumasok o hindi,” Eleazar said.
The Philippine government implemented community quarantine in Metro Manila in an aim to contain the spread of the disease. This move has been restricting the movement of people going inside and outside the region.
Curfews have also been implemented by various local government units starting last night to prevent individuals from roaming around the metro amid the threat of COVID-19./PN
