ILOILO City — The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) director instructed his men to intensify their visibility and not to stop putting up checkpoints.
Senior Supt. Ruperto Floro made this order to his chiefs of police in view of successive robbery incidents perpetrated by motorcycle riders here.
Floro wanted a more stringent inspection of vehicles, most especially of motorcycles, at checkpoints.
Always check the licenses of motorcycle drivers, he told his men.
The ICPO director also deployed intelligence officers to help checkpoint personnel in monitoring possible lawless elements.
On Wednesday, a cafeteria owner, Lorry Pajate, of Lapuz district, lost P10,000 to motorcycle-riding robbers while she awaiting a jeepney ride at around 4:30 a.m.
Two days earlier, Allan Loredo, an employee of courier company LBC Express, was held up by motorcyclists.
“Our police chiefs know how to deal these incidents,” Floro said. “My instructions are clear: step up police visibility and conduct checkpoints on motorcycle riders [sic].”
Meanwhile, Floro said the suspects in the two robbery incidents are different.
Loredo on Monday claimed that two persons riding on a motorcycle grabbed his backpack containing P143,000, which he had withdrawn from BDO bank.
He said he was walking on Valeria St., City Proper, at around 11 a.m. when the motorcycle’s back rider snatched his backpack./PN
