MANILA – The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) seeks to further enhance the Philippines’ labor cooperation with the Canadian province of Manitoba.

Manitoba Minister of Labour and Immigration Jon Reyes and his delegation paid a courtesy call to Secretary Susan Ople at the DMW office in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila yesterday, Feb. 22, 2023.

He told Ople about a new program which would financially support Filipino nurses intending to work in Manitoba.

Among others, the said program will include the provision of airfare, accommodation and training.

Reyes said Manitoba is interested to hire more skilled Filipino health professionals through this new program.

Ople, meanwhile, cited the Canadian government for its hospitality and firm commitment in upholding the rights and welfare of Filipino migrant workers, as well as in recognizing the professionalism of Filipino nurses.

She told Reyes it is “very natural to our Filipino nurses, to our healthcare professionals to see every patient as a member of the family or a friend.”

“Being warm, hospitable, caring, and hopeful are some of the qualities of our Filipino nurses that makes us proud,” said Secretary Ople./PN
