ILOILO City – A student died after the car he was driving collided with passenger jeepney along Diversion Road in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao district around 4:15 a.m. on Sunday morning, Feb. 4.
The victim identified as Jeymar Fortaleza of Barangay Cubay, Jaro district and a graduating Information Technology student succumbed to fatal body injuries while being treated at the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital.
According to Police Captain Val Cambel, Mandurriao police station chief, Fortaleza was driving his car from a mall on his way to the City Proper district when he accidentally crashed against a jeepney running in opposite direction.
Jeepney driver Morito Soliguen of Dingle, Iloilo, meanwhile, was unharmed and detained at the Mandurriao police station.
Cambel said when the incident happened, the other side of the road was closed because of the ongoing fun run.
“Gin-close ang other side sang karsada halin 9 p.m. (Feb. 3) kay may fun run, amo ato nga gin-two-way ang pihak nga karsada. Basi madasig ang pag-drive sang victim kay grabe ang damage sang iya salakyan,” Cambel said.
Witnesses also told the police that the car was seen running “zigzag” and went to the lane of the jeepney which resulted to the collision./PN
