ILOILO City – Were it not for her presence of mind, according to an 18-year-old female student, she could have been abducted and raped.
Around 7 p.m. Friday last week in Barangay Tabuc Suba, Jaro district, the student – from Barangay Poblacion, Concepcion, Iloilo – said she asked directions from a motorcycle-driving man where the University of San Agustin was because she would be attending a cousin’s debut party in an adjacent restaurant.
The man told her he was in fact on his way to the university because he worked as a security guard there, then offered her a free ride.
The student agreed.
Several minutes later she became suspicious. The man appeared to be driving the motorcycle to a dim area already far from the city.
The student decided to jump off from the motorcycle and screamed for help from nearby houses. Stunned, the man drove his motorcycle away from the area.
From residents who offered to help her, the student learned she was already in Barangay Bitaog, Santa Barbara, Iloilo. They took her to the police.
At the police station, the student described the man – he was driving a black motorcycle, wearing a black helmet, green shirt and a pair of short pants./PN
