CAPIZ – Capiz Governor Esteban Evan Contreras is eyeing a subsidy for the transport sector in the province which was affected by the series of fuel price hikes.
According to Contreras, the jeepney and tricycle operators and drivers in Capiz asked for his intervention and assistance regarding the sudden increase in fuel prices, without an increase in the imposition of passenger’s fare.
Relative to this, Contreras instructed Provincial Budget Officer Antonio T. Arbis and Provincial Accountant Atty. Ernie B. Arcenas to evaluate and consider the possibility of providing subsidies to operators and drivers of registered jeepneys and tricycles in the province, subject to budgetary and accounting rules.
The governor hopes that this will help cushion the impact of fuel prices.
“We believe that the Provincial Government’s subsidy to drivers and operators will help them cope with the adverse effects to the current situation./PN
