BACOLOD City – This city may host a “sugar summit” sometime in early 2023, according to Negros Occidental 5th District’s Cong. Emilio “Dino” Yulo III.

The summit was suggested by Bacolod City mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez during a meeting with senators JV Ejercito and Sherwin Gatchalian on Friday, Dec. 2.

“Bacolod City will host the summit as Negros Occidental is considered the sugar capital of the country,” said Yulo.

According to Yulo, Philippine sugar must be globally competitive.

The summit could gather industry stakeholders and government agencies.

He said they are also anticipating a higher demand for sugar as the whole country is now gradually returning to normal, and they need to address the problem immediately.

He expressed optimism that the industry can define it during the summit./PN
