SUN Yat Sen High School moved up to second place in the 2018 Iloilo PRISAA secondary boys basketball after a 90-55 win over Colegio de San Jose on Saturday at the Western Institute of Technology gym in Iloilo City.
Arvin Paul Tabares led the way with 22 points while Cairon Gain contributed 20 markers for Sun Yat Sen, which imposed its will on San Jose from start to finish for an easy win.
Also moving up to second place along with Sun Yat Sen were Georgia International Academy, Inc. and Colegio de las Hijas de Jesus, which tallied separate lopsided victories.
Georgia banked on the hot shooting of Janry Sabando and Kevin Gedalanga – with 17 and 14 points, respectively – to score a 68-59 triumph over Iloilo Scholastic Academy.
Hijas, on the other hand, cruised to a one-sided 64-30 victory over Holy Rosary Academy. Paolo Martin Valencia fired 22 points while Andrei Daylan Villaruz added 15 for the winning team.
Filipino-American School Town, meanwhile, recovered from a season-opening defeat, dominating the Philippine American Progressive School, Inc. 83-56. Tony John Jerusalem and Louisemil Suelo had 19 and 18 points, respectively, for the former team.
Meanwhile Hua Siong College of Iloilo, Assumption Iloilo and University of San Agustin cruised to a 2-0 start in elementary boys basketball over at the PAREF-Westbridge School for Boys gym in Iloilo City.
Hua Siong manhandled Santa Isabel College of Iloilo 128-12, with Jake Guarra on the lead with 20 points. San Agustin walloped Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus 52-15 with Kurt Lawrence Vipinosa and Chad Cartel having 10 points each.
Assumption cruised to a 44-26 victory over Central Philippine University with Raphael Bibanco topping the former’s scoring with 12 points. Iloilo Doctors’ College recovered from a first-day loss with a 38-34 escape from St. Joseph School.
Ateneo de Iloilo had a winning start with a 76-14 romp against Philippine-American Progressive School, Inc. behind the 10 points of Jurrien Tenorio, while PAREF-Westbridge had a 66-57 win over Colegio de San Jose for a 1-0 start./PN
