BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia lifted the lockdown enforced on three major public markets in the city.
In easing the stringent quarantine measure, Leonardia cited the turnout of the recent “surveillance testing” for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on vendors at the Central, Burgos and Libertad markets.
The Oct. 10 testing covered a total 1,786 vendors – only 25 turned out positive for the viral infection.
“The Sunday lockdown is considered no longer imperative and may now be lifted,” Leonardia said.
The mandatory surveillance testing project was implemented through the City Emergency Operations Center being supervised by retired Major General Melquiades Feliciano, deputy chief implementer of the Inter-Agency Task Force-Visayas.
According to Leonardia, this proactive measure achieved the purpose of determining the safety environment of the markets vis-a-vis the possible prevalence of the COVID-19 threat.
However, the periodic cleanup and disinfection of the markets shall be maintained every Saturday or Sunday nights./PN
