ILOILO City – Provincial jeepneys will no longer be allowed to enter, park and wait for passengers around the Iloilo Terminal Market, popularly known as “Super,” starting first week of June.
This aims to decongest the road where the temporary stalls of the market vendors are located, said Jeck Conlu, head of the city government t’s Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO).
Iloilo Terminal and Central markets – the two biggest public markets of the city – are up for redevelopment. The transfer of the market vendors to the temporary stalls will give way to the start of the upgrading of the markets.
Conlu said prohibiting provincial jeepneys from entering the Super area will push through whether the enhanced Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) of the city will be implemented or not by that time.
“Magadugang ang foot kag vehicular traffic sa karsada. Nag-gamay ang space sang aton foot traffic, nag-gamay man space sang vehicular traffic. Ti, kon puno pa sang ga-parking nga provincial jeepneys, kon magutok kag mas traffic, mas ma-discourage ang mga tawo magkadto sa terminal market naton, mas mapierdi ang mga vendors,” Conlu explained.
All provincial jeepneys, meanwhile, will be allowed to transport passengers from and up to their respective transport terminal only.
However, Conlu noted there will be special arrangements for provincial jeepneys that deliver agricultural products and other goods in and out of Super. He said deliveries will be allowed before 7 a.m. and there will be specific area for these jeepneys.
Meanwhile, the PSTMO chief said the city government and the transport sector are ready for the implementation of the city’s enhanced route plan.
He noted that they are just waiting for the official publication of the enhanced LPTRP ordinance in a newspaper of general publication.
Fifteen days after its publication, the city has to wait for the memorandum circular from the Department of Transportation on the guidelines of the implementation./PN
