MANILA – Petron Blaze Spikers closed the first round of the 2019 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix undefeated with a 25-15, 25-19, 25-14 sweep over Cignal HD Spikers at the Muntinlupa Sports Center in Muntinlupa City.
On Saturday night, Stephanie Niemer unloaded 18 kills, one block and four aces to finish with a game-high 23 points.
The Blaze Spikers ended the first round of the preliminaries with a perfect 7-0 win-loss slate.
Katherine Bell was also impressive with 19 markers while Ilongga Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Mary Remy Palma had five points apiece.
“I think we did a good job, but it doesn’t end here,” said Blaze Spikers head coach Ceseal Delos Santos. “It’s a good thing if we can maintain our winning streak. But we still have to step up if we want to remain undefeated in this very tough tourney.”
Erica Wilson was the lone bright spot as she delivered 13 points for the HD Spikers, which finished the first round with a 4-3 win-loss slate.
Meanwhile, F2 Logistics Cargo Movers recovered from its first defeat as it crushed PLDT Home Fibr, 25-20, 25-21, 25-19, to end the first round of eliminations with a 6-1 win-loss mark.
Lindsay Stalzer notched 19 points while Becky Perry added 12 markers for the Cargo Movers. Grace Lazard had 14 attacks to finish with 16 points for PLDT, which dropped to 3-4./PN
