MANILA – The Philippine women’s volleyball team bucked the absence of some players to pull off a 25-14, 25-18, 25-16 win over PSL Shine in the Philippine Superliga (PSL) Super Cup at the San Juan Arena.

Mylene Paat finished with eight points to lead the way while Frances Molina and Mary Joy Baron tallied seven markers apiece on Tuesday night,

The nationals used the tournament as a warm0up for the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
Guimarasnon Jovelyn Gonzaga and Ejiya Laure had six points apiece while Madeleine Madayag contributed three attacks, one block and one service ace.

Rhea Dimaculangan had 13 excellent sets and three aces.

Alyssa Valdez and Julia Morado didn’t see action due to their commitments with Creamline Cool Smashers but it hardly mattered. The nationals uncorked a well-balanced assault to register a win in the pocket tournament.

“Of course we’re happy with the win but we’re still a work in progress,” said national team coach Ceseal Delos Santos. “We want to keep on improving and we have to work hard for it.”

For the losing Team Shine, Marjana Philips scored eight markers, on seven attacks and one block.

In the second game, the visiting University of Tsukuba of Thailand defeated PSL Sparkle in straight sets. 25-8, 25-12, 25-20./PN
