ILOILO City – Far Eastern University Baby Tamaraws shored up its roster with four Western Visayas-based recruits, led by national U-17 girls volleyball team libero Mary Karylle Suplico.
Baby Tamaraws head coach Rjay del Rosario confirmed the acquisition of Suplico, a Best Libero awardee during the Mayor JPT New Normal Volleyball tournament last month.
“Mary agreed to join the FEU Baby Tamaraws and she will be a great addition since bata pa siya and we can develop her all the way to college,” Del Rosario told Panay News on Thursday.
Apart from Suplico, a standout from La Paz National High School, the Baby Tamaraws also snagged middle blocker Robielle Silla, setter Princess Zyne Tumayao and opposite hitter Kieralyn Caballero.
The 5-foot-10 Silla was a member of the Ateneo de Iloilo secondary girls volleyball team, while Tumayao and Caballero were from La Paz National High School and Supang National High School, respectively.
“I saw the three played during the Mayor JPT New Normal Volleyball and they were impressive. They will be a huge help for the team when UAAP juniors resumes,” Del Rosario said.
The four key additions increased the total of Western Visayas-based recruits of the Baby Tamaraws to 11 after landing seven Region 6-based volleybelles late last year.
Among the FEU recruits before were Niña Beatrice Maluto, Jasmine Therese Balasan, Kyle Pendon, Zchryren Kate Mediavilla, Elizza Anne Alimen, and Fiona Marie Arroyo and Negrense Frenche Premaylon.
“It is not by design na puro taga-Western Visayas ang recruits namin but since I believe na madami talagang talented volleyball players dito,” Del Rosario said.
“They are too many quality volleyball talents and they just need a good exposure for them to spread their wings and we want to give them that here in FEU,” added the Ilonggo head coach./PN
