SAN JOSE, Antique – The supply of basic goods in Antique is “stable” amid the province-wide declaration of a state of calamity, according to the Provincial Price Coordinating Council (PPCC).

The PPCCC added that the prices of these products remain steady during its meeting last week at the new provincial capitol.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan placed Antique under a state of calamity after monsoon-triggered rains and floods various areas in the province, damaging crops and livelihoods of Antiqueños.

Department of Trade and Industry provincial director Mercedes Young said frequent monitoring of the supply must be conducted in the following weeks.

Young stressed that the PPCC must ensure that the rates of the basic goods are within automatic price ceiling.

The automatic price ceiling would take effect for 60 days from the day of declaration –Aug. 9 – unless earlier lifted or extended by the local council.

Establishments caught selling above the prescribed rates will be penalized under Republic Act 7581, or The Price Act.

Meanwhile, the National Food Authority has provided 20 bags of rice for San Jose, 50 bags for Barbaza and 405 bags for the provincial government for their relief operations. These bags were all purchased. (With a report from PIA/PN)
