MANILA – The Supreme Court (SC) has reorganized the membership in its three divisions following the assumption of Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta as the 26th head of the Judiciary.
The High Court’s first division is now composed of Peralta as chairperson, Associate Justice Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa as working chairperson, and Associate Justices Jose Reyes Jr. and Amy Lazaro Javier as members. Associate Justice Henri Jean Paul Inting was named temporary member.
The SC is now on its recess and will resume sessions on Nov. 4.
The second division is headed by Associate Justice Estela Perlas Bernabe as chairperson with Associate Justices Andres Reyes Jr., Ramon Paul Hernando, and Inting as members. Associate Justice Rodil Zalameda acts as a temporary member.
Associate Justice Marvic Mario Victor Leonen is chairman of the third division with Associate Justices Alexander Gesmundo, Rosmari Carandang, and Zalameda as members. Javier is the temporary member.
The temporary members in each of the SC’s three divisions were named since there are presently three vacancies in the tribunal following the promotion of Peralta as Chief Justice, and the retirement of Associate Justice Francis Jardeleza on Sept. 26.
Meanwhile, Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio retired from the service on Friday.
The en banc or full-court raffle committee is now headed by Bernabe with Caguioa and Gesmundo as members and the division raffle committee is headed by Leonen with Andres Reyes Jr. and Jose Reyes Jr. as members. (With a report from PNA/PN)
