NUEVA VALENCIA, Guimaras – Parts of Sitio Central and Sitio Landasan in Barangay Magamay here were placed on “localized containment” or “surgical lockdown”.

Eleven persons tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The lockdown commenced on Feb. 18 and would be in effect “until further notice.”

Part of Mayor Emmanuel Galila’s executive order on the lockdown issued on Feb. 18 stated such was needed “to prevent COVID-19 infection from further spreading…”

All affected households in the aforementioned sitios were directed to refrain from unnecessary travel until contact tracing, testing and disinfection have been completed.

“Strict stay-at-home for the duration of the localized containment is imposed,” said Magamay.

The index case was a doctor. His wife also got infected and died on Feb 17.

The Rural Health Unit (RHU) further widened its contact tracing and detected more COVID-19 cases (seven were members of the doctor’s family, a household help and a neighbor).

As this was being written, contact tracing was further widened.

The RHU also hopes to determine how the doctor contracted the coronavirus – from the clinic or elsewhere./PN
