ILOILO City – No contrabands were found inside the female dormitory of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology on General Luna Street in City Proper during a “surprise” greyhound operation on Wednesday morning.
Only ball pens, lighters and canned goods were recovered from the jail facility, according to Jail Senior Inspector Aubrey Gutierrez.
Personnel from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 6 also conducted a drug test on 79 selected inmates and 18 jail personnel.
The drug test yielded negative results.
Gutierrez said it was the first greyhound operation and drug test conducted in the jail facility this year.
She stressed that they were strict in frisking jail visitors to make sure that no illegal drugs and other contrabands enter the facility.
There are a total of 235 female inmates in the female dormitory – most of them are facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
“This is a part of our cleansing process among our personnel and inmates to show that this office is a drug-free area,” Gutierrez said./PN
