Surprise drug test for Negros antinarcotics cops

SURPRISE DRUG TEST. Members of the drug enforcement units from various police stations in Negros Occidental submit their urine samples to Provincial Crime Laboratory personnel during a seminar at the police provincial headquarters in Bacolod City on Friday, Aug. 31. NOCPPO

BACOLOD City – Some 200 antidrug personnel of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) had undergone a surprise drug test.

They included members of drug enforcement units from various police stations in the province, said Nocppo public information officer Senior Inspector Aireen Cordua.

Those from San Carlos City, Escalante City, Calatrava, Toboso, and Salvador Benedicto did not take Friday’s drug test. They already took one two weeks ago.

The police officers were made to submit urine samples, Cordua added. The results will be released this week.

According to Cordua, the antidrug operatives were attending a seminar on the procedures of filing drug cases at the Nocppo headquarters when they were informed that there will be a drug test.

Personnel from the Provincial Crime Laboratory facilitated the test upon the order of Nocppo director Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr.

Castil said it was part of the internal cleansing campaign of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

In mid-August, the PNP reported that at least 400 personnel from various law enforcement agencies in the country had been dismissed over drugs.

PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Benigno Durana Jr. said 267 personnel were sacked due to drug use while the 95 others, due to drug-related offenses. (With a report from PNA/PN)
