One of the suspects in Sunday’s shooting incident at a cockpit in Hacienda San Isidro, Barangay Concepcion, Talisay City, Negros Occidental has surrendered to the police.
The 44-year-old security guard Jojo Panes of Barangay Ma-ao, Bago City, Negros Occidental (not Barangay Tangub, Bacolod City as inaccurately reported in this paper yesterday) turned himself in on Monday.
Panes said he wants to clear his name.
Superintendent Adonis Rosales of the Talisay City police station earlier tagged Panes and foreman Noel Padol as the suspects in the shooting, which led to the death of two persons: the 62-year-old Isagani Dalisay and 29-year-old Jesril Tarrazona, both residents of Barangay Concepcion, Talisay City.
The 35-year-old vendor Maricel Ferrer of Barangay Mandalagan also hurt in the shooting.
She sustained wounds on the leg and was currently confined in a hospital for treatment, police said.
Initial investigation revealed that Panes and Tarrazona had an altercation that resulted in a fistfight.
Padol then drew his .45-caliber firearm and shot Tarrazona on the chest, but also hitting Dalisay and Ferrer, police said.
When Tarrazona fell on the ground, Panes also drew a gun, added the police.
Panes said it was Tarrazona who first hit him with a beer bottle.
He also told the police that he saw a certain “Norbeto Ocate” carrying a gun at the time of the shooting.
But Panes was unsure if Ocate was indeed involved in the shooting.
Police were still investigating./PN
