BACOLOD City – The suspect in the death of a seven-year-old girl stuffed inside a sack in Victorias City, Negros Occidental was caught.
The 37-year-old Mark Besa was arrested by officers of the municipal police station in Ajuy, Iloilo around 5 p.m. on Monday.
Besa – resident of Barangay 6, Victorias City – was a former drug surrenderer and he was accused of sexually assaulting and killing the victim.
Captain Joy Ellaga of the Victorias City police station said Besa immediately fled after the Sunday’s incident. He stole a fisherman’s boat where he crossed the sea until he came ashore in the town of Barotac Viejo and hid at a relative’s house in Ajuy.
Besa was now detained in the Victorias city police station’s custodial facility.
Lieutenant Colonel Eduardo Corpuz meanwhile said the suspect did not admit the crime but his escape indicates he was responsible for the killing.
According to Corpuz, an autopsy report on the victim’s body revealed she was sexually assaulted.
The police chief also added she was beaten and her neck was forcefully twisted.
Examiners concluded the girl’s cause of death was due to severe head injury caused by a blunt force trauma./PN
