Suspect in fish vendor’s slay faces murder raps

ILOILO City – The suspect in a shooting incident in Zone 3, Barangay Boulevard, Molo, Iloilo City faces a murder charge.

Police Captain Benjie Dicen, officer-in-charge of the Molo police station, said they were still looking for the 60-year-old suspect, “Nonoy” Catalan, a retired Philippine Army and a resident of Zone 1, Barangay Boulevard.

Catalan allegedly shot 60-year-old Armando “Alog” Samson, a dried fish vendor who owed him P1,000.

Meanwhile, Dicen said they were in contact with the suspect’s brother.

On Saturday morning, Aug. 12, Catalan went to Samson’s house to collect the debt, but the victim, who had only P50 left, could not pay.

The victim’s 14-year-old son and residents heard six bursts of gunfire from a .45 pistol ascertained from empty bullet shells recovered from the crime scene./PN
