ILOILO City – The No. 10 most wanted person in this city was arrested in Mayantoc town in Tarlac province.

Jimmy Vito was charged with murder with the use of an unlicensed firearm, according to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Region 6.

CIDG-6 operatives caught the 39-year-old in Barangay Pitombayog, Mayantoc, Tarlac at around 5:45 p.m. Sunday.

Vito and elder brother Joevani were suspects in the fatal shooting of Marcelo Tallas in Barangay Dungon C, Mandurriao district here on April 30, 2011, the CIDG said.

An unlicensed .45 pistol was used on the victim, it added.

“I was a village watch at the time,” Vito recalled. “There was a dance and I was guarding the gate when I refused to let a child of his (Tallas) sibling get in for not wanting to pay the fee.”

“Tallas and I fought, and my brother helped me. My brother then shot him,” Vito said in Hiligaynon.

Vito was detained at the CIDG-6 lockup cell at the Police Regional Office 6 headquarters in Camp Martin Delgado, Fort San Pedro.

His elder brother – named the No. 9 most wanted person of the Iloilo City Police Office – remained at large as of this writing.

Judge Edgardo Catilo of the Regional Trial Court Branch 23 (Iloilo City) issued the warrant of arrest against Vito. The judge recommended no bail.

Senior Inspector Teolilo Juanata Jr., Senior Police Officer 3 Job Lujan and Police Officer 1 Archie Ian Puga of the CIDG-6 and the Mayantoc police station served the warrant to the suspect./PN
