ILOILO City – A suspected case of African Swine Fever (ASF) was logged in Barangay Tacas, Jaro district.

According to City Agriculture Office (CAO) head Iñigo Garingalao, a team from the City Veterinary Office and CAO went to Barangay Tacas yesterday after hog mortality was reported in the area.

He said the Regional ASF Task Force already extracted a blood sample from the deceased hog for laboratory confirmatory test.

For now, while waiting for the result, the movement of hogs and pork meat and products is prohibited in and out of the containment area.

The suspected ground zero in Barangay Tacas is the boundary of the city and Pavia, Iloilo.

It is also in Barangay Tacas where the city government-run slaughterhouse is located.

Meanwhile, in Iloilo province, two more towns reported hog mortalities. These are Dumangas and New Lucena.

Surveillance investigation in the suspected affected areas is now being conducted by the Provincial ASF Task Force.

So far, the towns with confirmed ASF cases in the province are Oton, San Miguel, Santa Barbara, Alimodian, and Leganes./PN
