ILOILO – Two fishermen from Barangay Lantangan, Carles town have been charged with violating Section 92 of Republic Act 10654 (the amended Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998).
Jonie Paghinayan, 42, and Reagan de la Cruz, 27, were caught by the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force using improvised explosives in gathering fish.
The complaint against them was filed by the task force at the Iloilo Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
According to Senior Police Officer 1 Gilbert Piedad, task force commander, they caught the suspects engaged in dynamite fishing 3.51 kilometers from the shoreline of Barangay Gabi, Carles on Sept. 19.
Seized from Paghinayan and de la Cruz were the following:
- motorboat and engine
-
shafting
-
propeller
-
ruder
-
improvised air compressor
-
compressor tank
-
two rolls of air compressor hose
-
three scope nets
-
improvised clippers
-
other paraphernalia.
Detained at the Carles municipal police station, the two may opt to post bail amounting to P20,000 each for their temporary liberty.
