Suspected gang leader nabbed

ILOILO City – A suspected leading of a gang was arrested in Barangay Calumpang, Molo district.

The 22-year-old RD Elado of Barangay Calumpang yielded a knife, police said.

Potentially dead bladed items such as knives are covered by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban, thus Elado faces a charge for violating the ban, according to the police.

Elado was arrested at around 9:30 p.m. on Monday. He was reportedly with several members waiting for a rival gang.

According to Police Executive Master Sergeant Ruth Laudato of the Women and Children’s Protection Desk of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), Elado’s Black Simple Street Junior (BSSJ) gang has 154 members 125 of whom are minors.

Elado was detained at the Molo police station.

Aside from Elado’s BSSJ gang, the ICPO is also monitoring the following gangs:

* in the City Proper – Singko Brothers (eight members), Barangay Estanzuela (15 members), Veterans Zone 8 – Milas Boys (six members), Pala Pala II (17 members)

* in Jaro district – Benedicto Group (seven members), San Isidro Group (four members), Olats Gang (three members), Simon Group

* in Molo district – EX Molo Side (14 members), Olatz 1, Sohigh/Rapzy (seve members)

* in Mndurriao district — Olatz 2 (four members)

“If we can restrict them from going out at night, we can stop them from staging rumbles. Amo na nga gina-implement ta gid sang hugot ang curfew,” said ICPO spokesperson, Major Shella Mae Sangrines./PN
