ILOILO City – A suspected aide of slain drug lord Melvin Odicta Sr. was arrested in a buy-bust operation of the police in Barangay Pakiad, Oton, Iloilo.

Twenty-nine-year-old Rogie Pineda of Barangay Infante, Molo district was detained at the Oton police station after selling shabu worth P20,000 to an “asset” of the Police Regional Office 6’s Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) around 9:50 p.m. on Saturday.

The suspect’s three companions at the time of the buy-bust were also arrested. They were Pineda’s 31-year-old sister Mapet, 22-year-old Iasha Lim of Barangay, Pakiad, Oton and a 17-year-old lad from Barangay North Baluarte, Molo.

Twenty more sachets of shabu were recovered from Lim while two mobile phones were seized from the minor.

“Rogie is classified a high-value target. The minor was his runner,” said Senior Inspector Kennith Bermejo, RDEU chief.

The phones confiscated from the minor were used to make drug transactions, he said.

Bermejo said Pineda belonged to the Odicta drug group but formed his own group after Odicta’s death nearly two years ago.

Unidentified gunmen shot Odicta to death at the jetty port in Caticlan, Malay, Aklan on Aug. 29, 2016.

Pineda and his companions face charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

According to Bermejo, Pineda has a brother currently detained at the Iloilo District Jail in Barangay Nanga, Pototan, Iloilo for an illegal drug case.

Ken Mark Pineda was arrested on September 2016 in Barangay Quintin Salas, Jaro district. Sixteen sachets of shabu worth P300,000 were seized from him, said Bermejo./PN
