Suspected rebel leader nabbed for soldiers’ slay

ILOILO City – A suspected platoon leader of the News People’s Army (NPA) charged with murder for a soldier’s death was arrested on Iznart Street, City Proper.

Salvador Hisuan, 48, was a resident of Pavia, Iloilo. He was brought to Police Station 1 after he was caught around 6:55 p.m. on Oct. 9.

Hisuan’s arrest warrant was issued by Judge Daniel Antonio Gerardo Amular of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 21 in Mambusao, Capiz.

The suspect was one of several persons accused of abducting Corporal Joebert Glindro of Barangay Artuz, Tapaz, Capiz on March 13, 2011 around 5 p.m. then torturing the soldier at the Tapaz cemetery before killing him.

Hisuan was the suspected commanding officer of the NPA’s Talibong Platoon. He denied killing Glindro.

He claimed he surrendered to the police sometime in 2014 and left the rebel movement for good.

Operatives of the Iloilo City Police Office and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 6 served to Hisuan the arrest warrant.

According to Hisuan, he did not know he had an arrest warrant and that he was not with the group that abducted Glindro.
The court did not set a bail bond for Hisuan’s temporary liberty./PN
