ILOILO – A 62-year-old man was declared “dead on arrival” in a hospital after being hit by a sport utility vehicle (SUV) while crossing the road in Zone 2, Barangay Botong, Oton town on Wednesday evening, Sept. 28.
Jolly Caballero, a resident of Barangay Botong, died of severe head injuries.
He was drunk while crossing the street, police added.
According to Police Corporal Raymund Dollete, traffic investigator of the Oton Municipal Police Station (MPS), the SUV – a Suzuki Ertiga – was driven by 28-year-old Roel Patrick Fantillan of the same barangay.
“Ang aton sini nga biktima nagatabuk sa dalan. Makwa ni siya tani sang iya motor papuli sang nabungguan siya sang salakyan nga halin sa Puregold,” Dollete said.
Fantillan was from Puregold-Oton and going home, too.
“Base sa hospital kaina ulo gid ini ang iya patal nga pilas. Suno man sa aton naka-istorya didto sa gintabu-an sang aksidente naka-inom ini ang aton biktima,” Dollete added.
Fantillan is now in the custody of the Oton police, waiting for the decision of the victim’s family if they will file charges./PN
