ILOILO City – Once the flights are back after the travel moratorium, Mayor Jerry Treñas is returning the swab test booth at the Iloilo Airport in Cabatuan, Iloilo.
The swabbing for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) at the airport will target returning city residents.
Treñas is seeing the need to resume the swabbing , citing the spike in COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) and adjacent provinces.
“It’s getting really difficult. Nabasahan ko indi lang kwarto ang budlay mangita didto, asta na bulong para sa COVID kag sa pneumonia. We don’t want that to happen here,” said Treñas.
The protocols for the swab testing at the airport are now being prepared for submission to the national Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), he added.
The IATF approved the moratorium of passenger flights and sea trips to Western Visayas from April 4 to 10 following the surge in COVID-19 infections in NCR and adjacent provinces, Cebu City and Davao City.
However, local chief executives in Western Visayas recently sought for another week of suspension of inbound travel from the said areas.
It was December last year when the city started operating a swab test booth at the Iloilo Airport. It lasted until March 1 this year./PN
