ILOILO City – Calabarzon’s Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh showed her way with six gold medals in the 2022 National Invitational Sports Competition, which ended on Tuesday at the Iloilo Sports Complex here.

The Brent International School standout capped her stellar showing in the tournament that served as a qualifier to the ASEAN School Games after dominating the girls’ 100m breaststroke event.

Prior to that, Mojdeh captured gold medals in 400m Individual Medley (5:18.51), 100-meter butterfly (1:05.26), 200-meter butterfly (2:25.01), 50-meter butterfly (29.89), and 200-meter IM (2:30.10).

“I am very happy to be back in the ASEAN School Games. This is a good chance for us to swim with the best of the Southeast Asian swimmers,” said Mojdeh who turned 16 on Tuesday.

Overall, the Calabarzon Region dominated the ASG qualifier with 13 golds, six silvers and eight bronzes, outclassing second placer Davao Region (six golds, seven silvers and six bronzes) and third placer Soccsksargen (six golds and three silvers).

“As a coach, I am very much impressed with the performance of Micaela and my other swimmers given that they have been through a back-to-back major swim meets,” said coach Virgilio de Luna.

“I was surprised that they were able to sustain their swim and kept on getting good times despite different weather conditions and time zone. It really takes a lot of courage to consistently win these kinds of multiple national meets especially coming from the pandemic,” he added.

The six-gold medal feat in Iloilo City was Mojdeh’s third consecutive solid performances this year after also stamping her class in France last May and at Rizal Memorial Stadium also last month.

Mojdeh won two golds and one silver in the 10th Circle of Swimmers of Melun Val de Seine held at the Piscine de Melun swimming pool in Melun, France.

The Calabarzon representative then captured seven gold medals in the Philippine National Age-Group Championships held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex./PN
