Swine distributed to 37 Negros raisers, coops

BACOLOD City – A total of 37 associations and cooperatives of animal raisers in Negros Occidental received hogs worth P928,000 under the Provincial Animal Genetic Improvement Program.

Joselito Jaballa, animal dispersal coordinator of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), said they distributed last week 37 heads of swine – 24 gilts and 13 boars – to various recipients in the province, among them 32 associations and two cooperatives in Cadiz City and Toboso town.

The Philippine Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade also received one head for its wellness farm in Barangay Minoyan, Murcia.

Jaballa said the recipient-hog raisers are required to give back four piglets during the first and second impregnations.

With a one-year supplier warranty period, stocks can be replaced if not suited for breeding due to reproductive failure, he added.

In case of animal death, the PVO will determine its cause and new stocks would be provided if no lapse is found on the part of the raiser.

Jaballa said the project seeks to boost local swine breeding. The piglets that will be given back will be dispersed to other association members. (With PNA/PN)
