The organizing committee launched the official logo of Bacolod City’s 80th founding anniversary on March 12. BACOLOD CITY PIO

BACOLOD City – The swish, the ribbon and the smile.

These are the things that make up the official logo of Bacolod City’s 80th founding anniversary, which was launched this week at the Mayor’s Officer in the Bacolod City Government Center.

Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia said during Monday’s launch that he wants the logo to be preserved.

“We [must not] distort it. We do not want it adulterated.  Anything that is not the original is a fake logo,” said Leonardia.

Leaonardia is the overall chairman of the Bacolod@80 organizing committee. He led the launch with committee members City Administrator John Orola (overall vice chairman) and Councilor Em Ang (executive director 4), and Jinky Joy Besa, the logo’s designer.

According to the committee, the swish symbolizes the “resilience of local soldiers and heroes who fought and won the war with the Spaniards using creativity and cleverness.”

It also stands for the “emotional and economic hardships that Bacoleños has gone through the past.”

The ribbon represents the “steadfast journey from the Charter of Bacolod to the current progressive city and the bright future she is pursuing.”

The smile, meanwhile, does not only represent the “Bacoleño smile” but serves as “a symbol for the exchange of heartfelt smiles.”

Bacolod is observing a yearlong celebration of its cityhood./PN
