ILOILO City – CESAFI champion Southwestern University-Phinma Cobras has agreed to challenge UAAP team University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in a two-day goodwill games this February here.
Ilonggo sportsman Rodolfo Go Villaruz told Panay News the Cobras accepted the invitation to play the Maroons on Feb. 22 and 23.
The Cobras, which claimed the CESAFI title last year at the expense of University of Visayas, is to be bannered by MVP Shaquille Imperial and Senegalese import Lamine Thiam.
“We were then in a rebuilding process and got our import already late na. I am very happy that the boys adopt our system and here, we are now the champions,” said Coach Mike Reyes, younger brother of former Gilas Pilipinas head coach Vincent “Chot” Reyes.
Villaruz said he sees a tough battle between the Cobras and the Maroons with the former having improved a lot last year by winning four championships.
“SWU was still rebuilding when I brought it to Pototan, Iloilo in 2017 for a pocket tournament with UP and FEU. Since then they have vastly improved,” Villaruz said./PN
