MANILA – Iloilo 2nd District’s former congressman Augusto “Boboy” Syjuco Jr. blasted administration allies in the Lower House for dismissing the impeachment complaints against President Benigno Aquino III.
“May mga mokong pa ba na naniniwala sa Kongreso,” said Syjuco in a statement sent to Panay News yesterday.
The former secretary-general of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority likened House members to “mushrooms” growing on trash.
“The trash in Batasan Hills is a presidential nursery, dinidilig ng pork barrel at DAP (Disbursement Acceleration Program) for breeding juicy mushrooms, and the pigs that slobber them,” said Syjuco.
The League of Filipino Students (LFS) said the junking of the impeachment cases showed that the country’s “struggle for genuine system change is far from over.”
The decision was a “ruthless and hasty murder of (our) efforts to seek accountability from (Aquino),” said Charlotte Velasco, spokesperson of LFS.
One of the only four legislators who voted in favor of the impeachment raps, Bayan Muna’s Rep. Neri Colmenares of Bacolod City maintained that their cases against the President were sufficient in form and substance.
But Colmenares claimed the House justice committee chose to follow the Aquino administration’s dictates, instead.
Aquino was “afraid” to answer the allegations against him, said the Negrense solon.
“Malacanang’s fingerprints were all over the four-hour poorly scripted show. Very clearly now, President Aquino and Malacañang do not want to answer the P144-billion DAP question,” he said./PN
