BACOLOD City – Government and nongovernment organizations made sure that they are ready to respond to emergencies that may take place at the Bacolod-Silay Airport.

More than 50 participants from various public and private agencies attended a tabletop exercise that was recently held at the PMO Conference Hall at the airport.

The exercise simulated an airline emergency landing.

Participants were grouped according to roles – airport police, military, security, airline operators, airport crush, fire and rescue services, air traffic services, public information officers, and medical officers.

Airport manager Martin Terre said the ultimate goal of responding to emergencies is to save lives and properties.

“In case of airport operation emergencies, cooperation among various agencies and stakeholders is vital,” Terre added.

According to Terre, aerodrome or airport safety is best achieved through collaborative efforts of stakeholders.

Meanwhile, Alex Balde, chief of the Aerodrome and Air Navigation Safety and Oversight Office of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), lauded the cooperation of the groups in conducting the exercise.

CAAP-Bacolod spearheaded the activity. (With a report fromPIA/PN)
