ILOILO City –Travel agents and members of the media from Taiwan visited Iloilo, Guimaras and Negros Occidental from April 23-27.
Organized by the Tourism Promotions Board, Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 6 and the Philippine DOT-Taiwan, the tour aimed “to showcase the standard itinerary offered by DOT-accredited tour operators.” It also aimed to inspect properties including accommodation, transportation and food.
According to DOT-6 chief Atty. Helen Catalbas, the activity was essential since Taiwan is the third top foreign tourist market of Western Visayas. The country follows Korea and China.
“Since 2010, Taiwan has been one of Western Visayas’ leading sources of foreign tourists. This trip of the Taiwan travel agents and media is part of DOT’s effort in strengthening the relationship between Taiwan and Philippines and provide more opportunities for local tourism stakeholders to offer and link their products and services to the international market,” she said in a statement.
Catalbas furthermore noted that this will not be the last time that DOT will be hosting familiarization tours. “DOT-6 will continue to bring more foreign tourists to experience Western Visayas but challenges the LGUs [local government units] and tourism establishments to keep up with the demand for this tourism upsurge require collective effort and will only be successful with everyone in the industry helping achieve our goals.”
Aside from the tour to the three provinces, the DOT on Tuesday organized a business-to-business networking session with the region’s accredited tour operators. (With a report from DOT-6/PN)
