Iloilo City’s First Lady Rosalie S. Treñas tells her fellow mother to allow children to experience love so that they may, in turn, spread it to others.

She is known for being a light and a pillar to her better half—the city dad of Iloilo, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas. But First Lady Rosalie S. Treñas is also a force of her own.

Like many women, she juggles multiple roles daily and, without fail, delivers to the best of her capacity in public service and as a homemaker.

This Mother’s Day, the city’s First Lady shares a peek into her life as a happily married wife and a mother of five children: Raisa Maria Lourdes, Jose Carlo Tomas, Jose Maria Miguel, Geronimo Efrain Salvador, and Jose Juan Paolo.

A balanced household

With so many tasks at hand, planning and time management is crucial. The city’s First Lady believes that maintaining order in the household would ensure that everything runs smoothly throughout the day.

“I begin each day by checking on my children in their respective rooms,” she said.

From mindful spending through meal planning and to tending plants, First Lady Rosalie S. Treñas sets an example to her children of always living up to the family’s values.

As a mother, I also recognize the significance of being attuned to my children’s emotional needs,” she said.

Regular family dinners, she added, is a significant avenue for the family to communicate openly which is a key to maintaining strong bonds.

“My commitment to order, efficiency, and emotional awareness is essential in creating a harmonious and balanced household,” the First Lady said.

Food as love language

Spending quality time with our children is always a cherished experience.

The Treñas family enjoys spending a relaxing weekend together by going to the farm.

“During these times, my son Gerry and my husband Jerry take charge of cooking delicious meals for our family to savor,” the First Lady said.

She emphasized the value of sharing their favorite Ilonggo meals together and creating lasting memories that the family will always treasure.

A child’s achievement, a mother’s pride

Among many of the fulfilling experiences of being a mother is seeing your children march down wearing their graduation regalia.

Nothing compares to the joy I felt when my children graduated. It was the culmination of our family’s hard work and discipline, and a moment that will always be etched in my memory,”First Lady Rosalie S. Treñas said.

A mother is most proud knowing that her children just had a significant milestone towards achieving their goals in life.

A mom amid adversities

But the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic hit and no one was spared. Even the most resilient mothers are tested.

The city’s First Lady remained steadfast for her family and for her better half, the father of the entire Iloilo City.

“I devoted my time to leading the Uswag Kitchen Patrol, an initiative that provided meals to frontline workers,” she said as she took on the role of becoming a mother to the Ilonggos.

She has shown that a mother’s responsibilities, nay heart, extend outside one’s home.

“It was a humbling experience to be able to contribute to the community in such a meaningful way and to witness firsthand the kindness and generosity of our fellow Ilonggos,” the First Lady said.

First Lady Rosalie S. Treñas (second form left) always underscores the importance of art in the local community. She recently attended the opening of three new exhibitions at the UP Visayas Museum of Art and Cultural Heritage.

A message to fellow moms from First Lady Rosalie S. Treñas

“I encourage you to start each morning with a prayer for inner peace and guidance. Remember to give unconditional love to your family and cultivate genuine happiness within yourself. Trust in God’s plan for your life and take the time to discern the best decisions for your family.

Teach your children to embrace challenges and failures as opportunities for growth. Create an environment of acceptance so that your children will feel safe to explore and learn. Allow them to experience love so that they may, in turn, spread it to others.

Make time for self-reflection and avoid distractions that hinder personal growth. Remember to think before acting and to be kind to others, even in difficult situations.

Listen to your children’s thoughts and feelings, and always be honest with them. By providing guidance, you can help your children make informed decisions, have direction and navigate life’s challenges. So that when the time comes, they already know how to decide for themselves.

As parents, it is our responsibility to provide the best for our children. By following these principles and leading by example, we can raise children who are compassionate, resilient, and capable of making a positive impact in the community.”/PN
