Talisay City, Pavia spikers rule Plagata Cup

BINGAWAN, Iloilo – Talisay City and the Municipality of Pavia showed their way in the women’s and men’s divisions of the Victor C. Plagata Cup Season 15 Volleyball competition on Saturday night at the Bingawan Civic Center here.

Behind the strong showings of Melody Pons and Kiesha Bedonia, Talisay City clinched the women’s division championship after beating J. Blazers in the finals.

Pons was later named as Plagata Cup women’s division’s l Most Valuable Player and Best Attacker, while Bedonia was given the Best Middle Blocker citation.

Also receiving individual awards for Talisay City were Glonie Layan (Best Setter), Marian Nicole Tabiera (Best Libero), Honey Grace Cordero (Best Server) and Topical Ortencio (Best Coach).

Completing the Talisay City roster, meanwhile, were Diza Marie Berayo, Thea Marie Divinagracia, Vilmarie Toos, Juna Mae Gonzales, Madith Jaylie Semillano, Kristel Mirasol, Kate Tan, and Laiza Benigay.

J. Blazers, meanwhile, had one individual award courtesy of Central Philippines University standout Fiola Ceballos, who was awarded as the Best Receiver.

Iloilo Sports Academy salvaged a bronze medal place finish in the women’s division, while La Paz National High School ended up as the third runner up.

The Municipality of Pavia, on the other hand, bagged the men’s division title after prevailing over JC’s Angels in the championship round, 25-20, 22-25, 25-21, 25-20.

Ritchie Mahilum led the Pavia players who got individual awards as he was hailer as MVP, Brian Gallego as Best Libero, Xian Camaymayan as Best Blocker, Miles Atienza as Best Receiver, Deo Amparado as Best Setter and Niel Dumalag as Best Coach.

JC’s Angels’ Kent Sabando and Jhon Rey Estiller, on the other hand, was named as Best Attacker and Best Server, respectively.

Blazing Angels, meanwhile, took home the bronze medal in the men’s division, while Municipality of Concepcion finished as the third runner up in the contest./PN
